5 Signs Your Insurance Company Is Cheating You

    October 29, 2024Updated:October 29, 202404 Mins Read

When you pay for insurance, you expect that it’s going to have your back when things go wrong. You trust that if your house gets damaged or your car is in an accident, your insurance company will step up and help you cover the costs.

But unfortunately, that’s not always what happens. Sometimes, insurance companies aren’t as helpful as they seem, and they may even try to avoid paying you what you deserve.

There are signs that your insurance company might not be looking out for your best interests. If you notice these red flags, it might be time to reach out to property damage claims attorneys who can help you understand your rights and provide the legal assistance you need.

These are the signs that tell your insurance company isn’t keeping its promise.

    1. Declining To Pass Your Call To The Right Claims Adjuster

The claims adjuster is the person who is supposed to handle your case and help you figure out what compensation you’re owed. If they keep dodging your request to talk to the right person, it might mean they’re trying to avoid taking responsibility or delaying your claim on purpose.

Always make sure you’re talking to the person who can actually help with your case.

    1. Bouncing Your Calls Between Multiple Departments

Another sign that something’s off is when they keep transferring you from one department to another without giving you any clear answers. It can feel like they’re giving you the runaround, and it often happens when they don’t want to deal with your claim directly.

If they keep bouncing your call from person to person without helping you, they might be stalling, so that you get frustrated and give up. Don’t fall for it at all. You have to stay persistent and demand real answers, or else they’ll keep up with the back and forth.

    1. Warning That Hiring a Lawyer Will Cost You Your Compensation

Sometimes, an insurance company will tell you that if you hire a lawyer, you’ll lose the compensation you deserve. This is meant to scare you, but it’s not true.

In fact, getting a lawyer can help you make sure the insurance company isn’t cheating you out of what you’re owed. They might just be trying to keep you from getting professional help, so you don’t catch onto their tricks.

If they start saying things like this, it’s a sign you might need legal support to protect yourself.

    1. Denying Your Payment With No Grounds or Using a Fabricated Excuse

If your insurance company denies your claim without a valid reason or makes up an excuse for why they won’t pay, that’s a huge sign they’re not being honest. They might say the damage wasn’t caused by what you claimed or that you don’t have enough coverage, even when you do. This is called a bad faith denial.

If they don’t give you a clear and legitimate reason for why they’re refusing to pay, they might be trying to cheat you out of the money you’re owed.

    1. Stalling the Progress of Your Claim Without Grounds, or Using a False Reason

If your claim seems to be taking forever to process and they keep giving you weak reasons for the delays, they might be stalling on purpose. They could be hoping you’ll give up or accept a lower payout just to be done with it.

Sometimes, they might even make up excuses, like saying they need more paperwork or extra inspections, when it’s really just a way to drag things out.

If this happens, reach out to your lawyer immediately. They can get higher authority to force the hands of the insurance company so that you can get your money faster.
