However in the lower budget segment of Rs 5 to Rs 10 lakhs, we have only 2 good MPVs and they are the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga and Honda Mobilio. Here is a brief study on them.
Ertiga is a good family car offering seat to 7 adults in a 2+3+3 seating arrangement. It is available in an array of petrol as well as diesel engine options which are mated to a manual transmission. Ertiga provides a decent mileage ofaround 16 kmpl by the petrol model and around 20 kmpl by the diesel model. It has four doors and entry to the third row is only from the second row. Seating in the last row is a bit crammed but this is compensated by extra space in the first two rows. Though Ertiga looks small from outside, the interior cabin is quite spacious. It is a feature rich vehicle offering all comfort and safety to driver and passengers. Ertiga’s many variants are available in the market at a reasonable price range of Rs 6 to 8 lakhs.
Honda Mobilio was launched in the country in July last year and is seeing decent sales since then. The superb exterior styling along with first-in-class quality interiors and advanced features combined with Honda’s goodwill has truly made Mobilio one of the best premium MPVs around. The Mobilio is available in two engine options- 1.5 litre i-VTEC petrol and 1.5 litre i-DTEC diesel engines. These engines impresses with an ARAI certified mileage of 17.3 kmpl and 24.2 kmpl respectively. Seven people can sit comfortably in this MPV. It looks visibly longer and taller with an impressive ground clearance of 185 mm. This lends the Mobilio a commanding road presence and also helps the car tackle patchy and uneven roads. Honda Mobilio is also packed with a horde of safety and comfort features.
