3 Things To Consider Before Moving An Elderly Loved One Into Assisted Living

    October 25, 2022Updated:December 28, 202203 Mins Read

If you have an elderly loved one that is getting on in years and can no longer give themselves the care that they need, you may be considering all kinds of options to help them be safe and comfortable.

While some people may be able to take their loved ones into their homes with them, if you don’t have the space, capabilities, or time to offer the kind of care that your loved one is in need of, moving them into an assisted living facility may be the best option for everyone. However, before you make this decision, there are a few things you should think about when deciding what to do.

To help you with this, here are three things to consider before moving an elderly loved one into assisted living.

Look At Finances As A Whole

One of the first things that you’ll need to think about is how you or your loved one will be able to afford them living in an assisted living facility.

Depending on the type of facility you have in mind for them to live in and the type of care that they need due to their medical health, having them live in a place like this can be very expensive. While you can shop around to find exactly what you need at a price you can afford, you may also need to take a long, hard look at your finances as a whole. There’s always the option of selling things that they won’t be needing anymore, like their home, if they’re going to be living in an assisted living facility long-term.

Make Sure They’ll Get The Care They Need

The other big thing that needs to be taken into account when considering moving an elderly loved one into a facility for assisted living in lincoln, or a location near you is if they’ll be able to get the kind of care they’ll need there.

To help you determine this, make sure you meet with the care manager of any facilities you’re considering. In these meetings, you’ll be able to discuss the type of care that your loved one is needing and what you’re expecting to be provided to them. After this conversation, you’ll likely have a much better idea if this is the kind of situation that would work for your loved one.

Can They Envision Themselves Living There

Before moving your elderly loved one into their new home in the assisted living facility, you should first take them there to visit and tour the grounds. When they are there, you’ll be able to see if both of you can envision them living in this place. This can help to calm a lot of nerves about making this big change.

If you’re thinking that your elderly loved one might need to move into an assisted living facility, consider using the tips mentioned above to help you find the right place and the right situation for your financial capabilities.
