Finding the right people to fill empty slots in your company requires more than just finding people who can successfully get through the interview phase. The interview lets you ask some basic questions and find out more about those who apply, but it will not necessarily help you find workers who can complete all the training that you put them through. Training ensures that they know what to do on the job and that they can handle anything thrown at them. Your training should offer three key things to be as successful as possible.

Different Teaching Methods

Good training sessions will involve different teaching methods because everyone learns best through different methods. While some do well in classes and training that they complete online, others prefer sessions in the workplace with professionals standing by. Offering training sessions in your workplace allows those workers to ask questions and get individualized help. You can also use these sessions as a way to see which workers are best for different positions because of how quickly they pick up the materials that you present. You can offer online training that employees can do at home too.

Frequent Testing

Some employers make the mistake of thinking that employees just need some basic training before they go to work on the job. This results in employees taking on roles that they do not understand and trying to do things that they cannot grasp. Using frequent testing is a great way to get an idea of how well those employees do as they go through training. This lets you see whether they struggle in certain areas and if they need some extra training before they go to work.

On the Job Aspect

A successful training program will also have some aspect of on the job training. Take for example an NFPA 70e training for welders. While you might hire people with welding experience, you won’t know if they can handle the specific type of welding jobs that you do until they actually go to work. With on the job training, you let them work under the guidance of another welder. That welder can see how well they perform and whether they need training in any specific areas or positions.
